LOCTITE 243 is designed for locking and sealing threaded connections that need to be removable with standard hand tools. The product cures anaerobically in the gap between bonded metal surfaces and prevents loosening or leakage caused by vibration and shock. It is particularly suitable for less active surfaces such as stainless steel or plated surfaces where disassembly with hand tools is required during repairs. The thixotropic nature of LOCTITE 243 prevents it from dripping off the application area.

Instructions for use

1. For best results, clean all surfaces (both external and internal) using LOCTITE® cleaners and allow to dry thoroughly.

2. If the material is an inactive metal or the curing time is too long, apply activator 7471™ or 7649™ to all threads and allow to dry thoroughly.

3. Shake the product thoroughly before use.

4. To prevent clogging of the applicator nozzle, do not touch the nozzle tip to the metal surface during product application.

5. For through holes, apply a few drops of product to the bolt in the area where the nut will be located.

6. For blind holes, apply a few drops of product into the internal thread at the bottom of the hole.

7. For sealing, apply a bead of product all the way around the leading threads of the bolt, leaving only the first thread free. Press the product into the threads so that it fills all the space. For larger threads, increase the amount of product applied accordingly and also apply a bead around the internal thread of the nut.

8. Assemble and tighten as required.

For disassembly

1. Disassemble the threaded connection using standard hand tools.

2. In rare cases where hand tools cannot be used due to excessively long contact surfaces, apply local heat to the nut or bolt to approximately 250 °C. Disassemble while hot.

For cleaning

Cured product can be removed by a combination of soaking in Loctite solvent and mechanical abrasion using, for example, a wire brush.
